i think one of the awesome things about the era of microcomputers was that they were all-in-ones, like the C64, etc.
they also booted up instantaneously, even if a lot of their storage mediums were a source of headaches.
the modularity of IBM-compatible PCs are great, but we could do a great service to the uninitiated by trying to advocate more for plug-and-play at the lowest levels.
smart phones don’t factor into these schema, for me, because the common attitude is that they are an accessorised, dedicated appliance. they are not a general computing device. they are also not designed to be modular or inspectable.
