one simple project I was thinking of making was a ‘fast travel simulator’ – you have to solve little puzzles or something in order to fast travel between locations/planets, and the object of the game is to move between the worlds with funny markov generated names
The name of the places would have scrabble scores in order to determine how many points it costs in order to travel there, and a really fun feature I think would be good in the game is that you are locked out of control of the game when you are in the process of fast travelling. Nothing would actually be loading, or perhaps control would be handed over to SETI@home or folding@home, (probably not), but /that/ would be the simulation of fast travelling hahahha
The project could be broken down into some component parts:
- Markov location name generator which determines the cost of the travelling
- a small suite of little puzzles which would be nice and twitchy and really casual
- some cool terminal graphics for the time you spend waiting to arrive at the next location
- (optional) different sets of scripts depending on whether you wanted to travel through space or maybe a fantasy world
- (optional) a map of the routes and nodes you have travelled and have the potential to travel to
- (optional) the location nodes could have a message board, and the game could run online, so you can say ‘Blorp Jr. Has been here!’
