On reflection, i think the main issue i have with a lot of the glossy menu- driven configuration of debians and ubuntus is that i can never be quite sure if the settings i am making are having a proper effect.
I suppose this is a little bit of a ‘btw i use Gentoo/GUIX’ post, but surely others who are more used to editing text files in order to get their networking going enjoy that activity and experience a little more.
I find i have to resort to terminal tools anyway after going through graphical configuration programs, in order to confirm functionality, and gain access to settings that don’t exist in the GUI front ends and wrappers on ubuntu- and debian-like systems
